N2 - Sharing and accessing health data on social media affects users’ privacy in many ways. Health data is not only sensitive in itself, but also refers to a user's identity. Sharing health data onsocial media – whether intentionally or unintentionally – can offer enormous benefits to users, but also poses significant risks related to personal privacy. Imagine someone seeking help for their severe health condition via a public social media post. This person might find meaningful social support, but could also lose control over disclosed information, thus invading their privacy. This chapter discusses health data on social media as a blessing and a curse, focusing on empirical findings and theoretical developments regarding motives for and barriers to sharing and accessing health data on social media.
