Abstract

The harmonic content of the no-load voltage of synchronous generators is limited by the requirements of IEC 60034-1. Since the use of analogous telephone systems has diminished, the term telephone harmonic factor (THF) will be replaced by total harmonic distortion (THD) with changed limiting values. This paper deals with the calculation of the time characteristic of the induced voltage and its harmonic content for salient-pole and cylindrical rotor synchronous machines. The influences of skewing, slotting, pole-shoe shaping and the type of the stator winding (integral or fractional slot winding) are especially considered.
