Abstract

Ships passing a pontoon dock in Bremerhaven led to large oscillations of the pontoons which caused damage and thus did not allow a safe use of the pontoons. The oscillations result from the dynamical loading of the floating structure due to the wake of passing ships which results in waves of known magnitude and wave length. These oscillations were damped by perforated plates which were mounted underneath the pontoons. The associated investigation and the applied mechanical model is summarized in this contribution.
