Abstract

Productive Failure seems to support conceptual knowledge acquisition when teaching mathematics. We aim to transfer this approach to teaching physics. However, studies, in which not all underlying cognitive mechanisms were triggered, did not show learning benefits. Therefore, we examine whether the developed teaching scenario triggers these mechanisms by comparing student solutions to those of students in a control teaching scenario. Additionally, we investigate if we were able to enhance conceptual knowledge with the Productive Failure scenario by comparing student learning.
