Abstract
In order to simplify the model building process, an expert system is presented which guides the user through the modelling process and results in appropriate mathematical models for true process conditions. The implementation of the knowledge has been achieved by three different methods: class hierarchy, a library of modelling methods and a dialogue-oriented modelling process. The "real time expert system shell G2" serves as a platform for development.
