Abstract

The aim of this study is to check the applicability of the Near-Infrared spectroscopy (NIR) and especially the chemometric analysis method PCA (Principal Component Analysis) for the potential to identify differences in compound homogeneity. Therefore silica-filled lightcolored rubber compounds are prepared with varying degree of silanization in order to investigate its influence on the silica distribution and the compound homogeneity. The results show that a higher yield of ethoxy-groups of the silane on the silica surface leads to better compound homogeneity and distributive mixing, which is now detectable by the use of the PCA method, and can be assigned numerically by specifying the statistical variance.
