Abstract

In this paper hardware and control design considerations for a mobile 1 MW DC-DC converter in Medium Voltage range are presented. The final application will be the supply of electrified agricultural machinery via an autonomous cable drum with power from the MV grid in combination with local renewables like solar, wind or biomass. After rectification from the grid, the 8 kV medium DC voltage allows to efficiently transmit electrical power with reduced cable size. The developed converter converts the 8 kV to 700 V on site. To decrease passive component size, high switching frequency of 50 kHz is achieved with the application of newly developed 3.3 kV SiC devices. A scaled prototype with one fifth current and voltage rating is constructed to demonstrate the feasability of the hardware and control concept.
