Abstract
The Mooney viscosity (MV) of rubbers is known to be an important processing parameter in the rubber industry. As an alternative, a spectroscopic method for predicting viscosity based on correlations between molecular and spectroscopic properties has been developed and systematically investigated using defined model substances (alkane ho-mologues) and anionic polymerised polystyrene as well as IR, NR, EPDM and NBR. The evaluation of IR spectra with respect to the polymer end group areas in the near and medium infrared range using Multivariate Data Analyses (MV) and Partial Least Square (PLS) shows good correlations for predicting rubber viscosities.
