Abstract

Chemical wave patterns and oscillatory kinetics of heterogeneously catalyzed reactions have been intensely studied in the past two decades. The profound understanding of these phenomena which has been reached today can to a large part be attributed to the use of surface science methods allowing to obtain detailed mechanistic information. The progress which has been achieved in this field is reviewed here with the emphasis being laid on single crystal studies.
