Abstract
The actual view of landscapes in Lower Saxony is the result of natural developments, human and technical impact. Actual landscapes must be protected by a more dynamic concept if they are predominantly influenced by natural developments. The protection of a status quo is more important if human impact was predominantly forming the character of a landscape. Only with a strong impact of technique the character of a landscape could be changed totally. In this paper examples are given for these cases: the coastal area, the fen and bog landscapes, the grazed woodlands, the heathlands, the beech woodlands, and the spruce woodlands in the Harz mountains.
