Abstract
The integration of micro polymer optical fibers directly onto the surfaces of metallic parts allows an inherent optical data communication. Furthermore, the use of single mode or Bragg-grating optical fibers offers the possibility of sensing physical changes at the surface, such as temperature and strain variations. In this paper, we describe how we used micro-dispensing processes to integrate micro-fibers as well as the different methods investigated to prepare their end-facets. For the characterization of these methods, we considered their possible integration in an automated system.
