Abstract
A new cobalt aluminophosphate, named LMU-3, has been synthesized from a synthesis mixture containing the 1,1'-dimethylcobalticinium complex cation as a cobalt source. Although the yield of the compound is very low, single crystals can be obtained and a crystal structure analysis has been carried out. The structure of LMU-3 is related to that of a nickel aluminophosphate with the formula K[Ni(H2O)2Al2(PO4)3]. It possesses an open framework built up from distorted [CoO6] octahedra, [AlO5] trigonal byramids and [PO4] tetrahedra. The still somewhat tentative formula for LMU-3 is NH4[Co(H2O)2Al2P3O 12]. It crystallizes in the monoclinic space group C2/c (No. 15) with a = 13.110(2), b=10.163(15), c=8.7424(14) Å, β=108.830(13)°, V=1102.8 Å3 and Z=4. The small amounts of LMU-3 available hamper further characterization.
