Abstract
As a basis for future development plans of agricultural areas at the local level, spatially concrete data as well as problem-oriented and regionally adapted goals must be provided. As farmers will remain the main land users in grassland regions, inclusion of their (economic) interests in planning concepts is necessary. On the other hand, spatial delineation of areas of possible land use change must be done and should be visualised in an appropriate form. The study area is a catchment area in the Allgau region (Baden-Wurttemberg). A geographical information system was used to gather and store the necessary data. The validation and area selection process was also performed by GIS according to specific rules, as well as the visualisation at the end. Pros and cons of the procedure will be discussed.
