Abstract
Although order release as the link between production planning and production control has an immense influence on order processing and the achievement of production objectives, a comparatively low significance seems to be attributed to it in practice. There-fore, the aim of this article is to take a closer look at the PPC task of order release, to identify historical developments and current trends and to encourage a more in-depth examination of the procedures and parameterisation in practice.
